No, I am not dead. I have just not posted on this blog for a long time. This summer I babysit 40 goldfish of my friend and colleague while he is at home visiting his parents in July. These fish are nice, I like goldfish. They do not eat each other or other fish. However, I have come to doubt their intelligence. Not too much though, they have the basic Pavlov dog instinct, and have learned that whenever I approach the aquarium they will get food. I wonder what they dream about. They probably don't dream at all. Who knows?
I decided that I want my own aquarium. Which fish is the nicest? What is the best fish to have in one´s aquarium?

- planted aqua – more like a water garden, beautiful plants, just few fish (often called “Dutch”, but google Takashi Amano’s name for Japanese inspiration) ?
- fresh water tank – à la “lakes of Sweden”, “Chinese river” etc. ?
- cichlids – much more exotic but they eat up all live plants, so no plants will live with them ?
- marine tank (you can keep Nemo there ;) ) – the most exotic but also the most difficult, and never recommended to start with ?
- alternative (frogs and similar creatures) ?
Some fish species opress, fight, and kill and eat other species - that is always to consider. Don’t go for anything below 300L tank, or something of unusual form (e.g. hexagon) that can cripple the real view (just a personal opinion). Get insurance to protect your neighbors… As for goldfish, they are indeed… stupid. And produce a lot of poo.

The tank I babysit today is 200 liters. I was promised as a tank of about 50 liters from the friend as a thank you gesture. The gold fish that I have are nice, I never expected fish to show any particular intelligence. They are decorative and provide calmness.
